Question by baseballislife733: What energy drink formula, if any, is best for before and during a bike ride?
What is the best, if any, energy drink formula for before and during a bike ride? I don’t know if these powdered formulas even work, but if they do, what would be the best?

sis stuff is good. They do a trial pack too for not a lot. you get a bottle and energy drinks, recovery drinks and some bars and gel packs. I cycle with it and it does help. It won’t make you super human but will get you up a couple more climbs !
What do you think? Answer below!
buy a gatorade bottle and get another empty gatorade bottle.
Put 1/3 of the gatorade in the empty gatorad bottle, and the rest water. Best thing ever.
Also, a can of 7up or Sprite, add some salt and its good too.
There are to many energy drinks available or on the market to say which one would be the best, but with Gatorade you really can’t go wrong. If you’re looking for a burst of energy during your rides try a can of coke. if you watch the Bike Tours ( TDF ) etc. you’ll notice part of there food packs they receive during rides always contain some type of power bars , bananas and good ol Coke.
IMO the best energy drink to load your bottles with is Gatorade or Powerade. Both especially Gatorade has all the sodium you need.
I had “bonk” issues with the refined sugars in Gatorade and Powerade, so I did some research on the issue and found Hammer Nutrition. Their drink is called HEED. HEED’s subtle tasting, all-complex carbohydrate formula goes down easily and supplies you with consistent, long-lasting energy and the electrolytes you need to keep pushing the pace. Made for a fantastic summer of epic rides and no muscle cramping for me. Check out their Sustained Energy product as well as Perpetuem. They also have the gels that taste the best.

I find them readily available at bike shops and nutrition centers.
If you ride for less than two hours, just drink water. If you ride more than two hours, drink an electrolyte drink with calories (because you need the calories). Gatorade is fine for most people, but if you go for long rides especially, you can end up with an upset stomach because of the refined sugars.
I drink Cytomax and have had good results on long rides-rides that last 4-12 hours.
But everybody is different, so experiment.
Keep it in the big ring.
Try some and see if one works better than another for you. Then stick with it. Everyone’s system is different, there is no ‘best.’
