Mayo Clinic Finds Upper, Lower Body Gain Weight Differently
Using ice cream, candy bars and energy drinks to help volunteers gain weight, Mayo Clinic researchers have discovered the mechanisms of how body fat grows. Increased abdominal fat seems to heighten risk for metabolic disease, while fat expansion in the lower body — as in the thighs — seems to lower the risk.

Out & About: Let the good tunes roll
The North Star Bar and Kathy’s Pub will team up tonight for this year’s Rochtoberfest. After taking a bit of a break, Rochester’s rock/metal band Unatural is back together, this time performing with ’80s–impersonation rockers Hairball at Graham Arena. Unatural will take the stage at 8:30 p.m., followed by Hairball at 10:30 p.m. Cost is at the gate, which opens at 8 p.m.
